Canadian violinist Gabriel Solomon performs 21st-century, classical, and baroque music as well as jazz, world, and avant-garde improvisational music. He is also an arranger, producing string arrangements and recordings, and film score compositions.

Mr. Solomon is a Registered Suzuki Teacher, and leads Gabriel Solomon Suzuki Violins, based in Woburn and Lexington, MA.

What is the Suzuki method?

An approach to teaching children to be whole, fine human beings through the deep and long-term study of a musical instrument. Suzuki’s central hypothesis stems from the observation that all children learn to speak their mother tongue through immersive environment, repetition, and especially, nurturing. Suzuki has adapted this process to learning to play an instrument as a primary language. Rather than reserving music only for those perceived as “gifted,” his conviction that every child can learn is both deeply optimistic and fundamentally egalitarian. But far beyond simply learning to play an instrument, Suzuki’s approach teaches us that each child can strive, find success and joy, and know true depth and beauty.

Gabriel is a fabulous teacher

He has a gentle, patient, encouraging approach with beginners under which they thrive, while with older children he shifts responsibility gradually onto them for their improvement and progress. He makes sure that they enjoy it, with appropriate musical games, analogies, and exercises that lead to bigger music pieces. I recommend Gabriel as a great teacher because his own playing has inspired my girls to aim higher and practice longer, because he makes lessons playful, and because his enthusiasm keeps me motivated to better support my daughters.

Be inspired by success, and cultivate a tremendous appreciation for music. With caring, quiet precision and constant positive reinforcement, he led our daughter from learning how to stand (still!), to holding a bow, to performing in front of her peers with unflappable confidence.
